BC Drama Talent Shining in Newsies at Cresson Lake Playhouse

Bishop Carroll students and alumni are known to share their gifts with the world. This summer, audiences at Cresson Lake Playhouse will have the pleasure of seeing some of BC’s best drama talent in action! 

Disney’s Newsies opens on July 23rd and runs until August 3rd at Cresson Lake Playhouse, and features plenty of BC’s drama talent, past and present, both onstage and off! 

  • Samantha Brisini ’07 is BC Drama’s costumer and has extended her talents to CLP for Newsies. Samantha joined stage crew as a student and is now bringing her beautiful work to the CLP stage. 
  • Claire (Houser) Lowmaster ’07 is directing Newsies and, according to her cast, doing an incredible job! On stage at BC, she played Edwin Drood/Alice Nutting in The Mystery of Edwin Drood and Maisie in The Boyfriend. Claire took home an Isaac runner-up for best supporting actress for her role as Maisie. 
  • Bruce Standley was BC Drama Club’s Director from 2003-2011, working with both Samantha and Claire. Bruce remains active in BC Drama, helping to hang lights for productions. He is playing several roles in Newsies, including Nunzio and Mr. Jacobi. 
  • Dani Vella ’17 is returning to the CLP stage after a year at Mount Aloysius College. Dani is fondly remembered as Dolly Levi in BC’s production of Hello, Dolly! during her senior year. She’ll be on stage as a Bowery Beauty and a nun in Newsies. 
  • John Hegemann ’18 is also returning to the CLP stage after being involved in Annie last season. John is most remembered at BC for his exceptional dancing talents. During his senior year, John played the wizard in Once Upon a Mattress. In Newsies, he’ll appear as a news boy, a policeman, and Teddy Roosevelt. 
  • Anne Way ’18 is making her CLP debut after a lifelong interest and involvement in theatre. Anne is active in theatre at Mount Aloysius College and most remembered for her BC Drama performance as Princess Winifred in Once Upon a Mattress. She earned an Isaac runner-up for lead actress for the role. Anne assists BC Drama backstage and with the production process. She is portraying the role of Finch, a wise-cracking news boy. 
  • Gabbi Lechak is the current director of BC Drama and has been directing with BC since 2012. She has had the pleasure of directing Anne, John, and Dani, as well as current student Alayna Przybys (not pictured). Gabbi is cast in Newsies as Katherine. 
  • Alayna Przybys (not pictured) is a rising sophomore at BC, known for her enthusiasm and bubbly personality. Alayna made her BC Drama debut as a crow in The Wizard of Oz. Alayna will play a Bowery Beauty and a nun.
