Lady Huskies team makes historic run

The Bishop Carroll Lady Huskies volleyball team ended their 2009 campaign with an overall 14-8 record, 11-5 in the Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference. The team made Huskies Athletics history when it swept Bellwood-Antis in the first round of PIAA District VI Class A playoffs, becoming the first Bishop Carroll volleyball team to advance beyond the first round.
"I'm so proud of our team and all the girls have accomplished this season," said Coach Joe Skura. "These girls were committed and they worked hard to raise the bar for this program. They have certainly represented our school and our program with great class."

Seniors Karlee Ertter and Katie Wyland have been selected to represent Bishop Carroll in the Johnstown Area vs. Somerset Area All-Star Volleyball Game being held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, 
Nov. 25, at
Somerset Area High School
. The game brings the best volleyball players from the many schools throughout
Cambria and Somerset counties together for a showcase match, with all proceeds benefiting 96 Key's Twelve Wishes of Christmas. 
 
  



Sunny Settle selected as American Volleyball Coaches 
Association and MaxPreps Player of the Week

Sophomore setter Sunny Settle was selected as the American Volleyball Coaches Association and MaxPreps Player of the Week for
Pennsylvania for the week of Oct.25-Nov.1. 
Sunny's accomplishments this year as setter for the team include 29 aces, 126 service points, 16 kills, 484 assists, and 97 digs.
"Sunny came in to volleyball only last year after a long run in the sport of gymnastics," said Coach Joe Skura. "She really found her niche with the sport of volleyball, and we are all proud she did. She has really learned the game. The way she gets focused on the court is impressive, and she will only continue to improve over the next two years. I'm proud to coach her."

Lady Huskies grab tournament title

Congratulations to the Lady Huskies Volleyball team on winning the Sixth Annual Jen Marcinko Memorial Tournament at Philipsburg Osceola High School on Sept. 5. The Lady Huskies went 7-1 in pool play to win the pool, before defeating Cambria Heights 25-13, 27-25 in the semifinals and Huntingdon in the championship match 25-16, 25-22. Lady Huskies capture league championship

The Lady Huskies Volleyball team won the 2009 Greater Johnstown Volleyball Club's Thursday Night High School Girls League at Roxbury Park. The league included 13 teams, and the girls defeated Windber in the championship on Aug. 6. The winning team included Sunny Settle, Katie Wyland, Alexa Semelsberger, Karlee Ertter, Dani Link, Hillary Bohrer and Annie Takacs.

 

 

The 2008 Lady Huskies

The 2008 Lady Huskies went farther than any other BCCHS volleyball team. Completing the regular season in the Laurel Highlands at 9-7, the Lady Huskies hosted the first-ever playoff game on Husky Hill. In the first round playoff game, Bishop Carroll suffered a heartbreaking loss to Penns Manor, 3-2, after going 2-0. The fifth set finished at 16-14. Senior setter Lauren Oldham and Coach Skura were selected to play and coach, respectively, in the Johnstown-Somerset All-Star Game held at Forest Hills in November 2008. Oldham also was honored as a Laurel Highlands All-Conference player and a PIAA District VI Class A All-District Second Team selection.
