Gaining College Experience in High School with Professor in Residence Program

Bishop Carroll students now have the opportunity to earn college credits and gain invaluable college-level classroom experience while still in high school.

Through a partnership with Saint Francis University's Professor in Residence program, a group of BC seniors are taking a college-level statistics course, taught at BC by SFU Associate Provost and Professor, Dr. Pete Skoner. The class, which meets two days a week to model a college schedule, utilizes technology resources, like Blackboard, that students will most likely be required to use in college.

Dedicated to Building a Solid Foundation of Faith and Diversity for Future Students

Samuel Piccioni ’73 has a long and rich history with Bishop Carroll that began in the fall of 1969 when he first arrived on campus at age 14. His son, Anthony, also attended Bishop Carroll and graduated in 2002. Sam served on the Board of Trustees for a few years up until 2014. Today he is co-chair of the annual golf tournament and also a member of the Committee for Bishop Carroll’s Our Tradition, Our Future Campaign.

When asked why he is so dedicated, Sam says that his fond memories of Bishop Carroll, along with the strong spiritual foundation he built there, inspire him to help create that same experience for current and future students.

Merry Christmas

"And the angel said to them: Fear not; for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy that shall be to all the people: For, this day is born to you a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord, in the city of David. And this shall be a sign unto you. You shall find the infant wrapped in swaddling close and laid in a manger."
- Luke 2:10-12

Learning with Your Hands: BC's Pen Club is Flourishing

Did you catch the recent story in the Altoona Mirror featuring Bishop Carroll’s Pen Club, a group in which approximately 20 students gather after school to hand craft wood and acrylic pens? This group is a success amid a day and age where many districts face cuts to music and art, including shop classes.

The club's advisor, Ed Graffte, who also teaches physics, math, and computers at BC, has also incorporated pen-making into the school's curriculum. Every junior and senior physics student makes a pen as part of his class, where they learn the concepts behind shaping the pens.
