BC and APVTS - Providing Opportunities

Vocational education programs have made a real difference in the lives of countless young people nationwide; they build self-confidence and leadership skills by allowing students to utilize their unique gifts and talents. – Conrad Burns

Students today need to be encouraged to reach their greatest potential by allowing them to use their God-given talents to not only better themselves, but also better the world.  Bishop Carroll Catholic High School is proud to partner with Admiral Peary Vocational Technical School to provide students with the opportunity to foster those skills in a variety of programs.  Students spend their mornings on Husky Hill and then travel to Admiral Peary for their afternoon classes.

Senior Nick Weber is in his second year at APVTS.  He is in the electrical program.  Nick is very appreciative of the opportunities presented to him through this partnership and program.  He commented that, "Being in this program gives me more opportunities for future employment as well as having advanced knowledge in my field."

Another student that is in the electrical program at APVTS is junior John Weiland.  John is in his first year in the program and is loving every minute of it.  He looks forward to going every day and sees countless benefits to what he is doing.  "This is going to help me in many ways in my life, and I want to encourage others with interest in technical fields to consider a Vo-Tech program.  I know that I will graduate with the knowledge and skills necessary to get me into my desired field faster, and I will be doing it without student debt."

Senior Matt Koenig is in his second year in the program.  Matt is enrolled in the small engine course and has been gaining important information and training for this vital field.  Matt says, "This is a great opportunity to go and experience a trade.  It helps me, as a high school student, to see what is available to me now and I can start my career path sooner."

Junior Luke Behe is in his first year in the carpentry program at APVTS.  He enjoys his time at Bishop Carroll but also realizes that our resources are limited in being able to provide classes for all possible career choices.  "This program allows me to continue to attend the high school I love while at the same time providing me with an opportunity to learn my trade.  I am grateful that BC gives me and my classmates the opportunity to do this."

Bishop Carroll has around a dozen students yearly that enroll in the programs that Admiral Peary has to offer.  It is the best of both worlds for these students because they receive their faith foundations and core classes on Husky Hill, and then can work on their trade skills, certificates, and job training at APVTS.  Head of School ,Mr. Steve Cotchen, is grateful for the partnership with Admiral Peary.  “Mrs. Laverick and I work closely with these students to help them see if Vo-Tech is the place for them.  Mrs. Laverick takes them on tours of the facility and has them meet with the faculty.  For many students, this path is perfect for them, and we are to facilitate them in achieving their goals.”

Students at Bishop Carroll are able to attend Admiral Peary during their junior and senior years.  For more information about the programs available, please contact Mrs. Laverick in the guidance office, or Mrs. Wurm at Admiral Peary.

We invite any Bishop Carroll alumni that attended Admiral Peary to contact the school and share your experiences with our current students!
