One of the hardest working behind the scenes individuals at Bishop Carroll is Athletic Director Mr. Jim Yeager. Mr. Yeager has been the Assistant Athletic Director for the past two years and this year takes over the AD position. Mr. Yeager has an extensive background in athletics and brings with him to the position a wealth of knowledge that will benefit our student-athletes.
Mr. Yeager graduated from Cambria Heights and then attained his BS in Math Education at Saint Francis before acquiring his Master of Education from Clarion University. His first teaching position was actually in a Catholic school at St. John’s in Lakemont. He then moved on to teach 4th grade at Cambria Heights for 34 years before “retiring.” He was the Athletic Director and a tutor at Northern Cambria for ten years before coming to Bishop Carroll. He and his wife Sue have a son and a daughter.
Mr. Yeager is totally dedicated to the positions he has had, and that is no different here at Bishop Carroll. He actually commented that, “I’ve never considered teaching or being an athletic director working. It’s what I enjoy!” After moving on from his position at Northern Cambria, he was looking for a way to keep in contact with local sports when the position at BC opened up. Mr. Yeager says of the school, “I enjoy many aspects of BC, but the most significant one is the friendly atmosphere of the school personnel, especially the administration, secretaries, and coaches.
He has many hopes, goals, and aspirations for the athletic program here on Husky Hill. His #1 goal as AD is, “To continue the high level of athletics that has been established at BC for years.” Mr. Yeager admits that the biggest challenge is maintaining and adding to the number of student participants in sports, but his hope is that as the elementary schools and Bishop Carroll increase enrollment, that the numbers in the various sports programs will also increase.
Mr. Yeager truly believes in the benefits of being involved in high school athletics. He remarked, “Getting involved in sports has numerous positive influences, from physical conditioning to teamwork to dedication. But the most significant reward is creating friendships and memories that last a lifetime!”
Mr. Yeager has been working hard to not only firm up all of our athletic programs, but he has also dedicated a great deal of time to establishing our co-ed junior high soccer program. Mr. Nagy commented, “I am grateful for the work that Mr. Yeager has done to help with the junior high athletic program. Athletics is just one of the ties that Bishop Carroll has with the schools of the Prince Gallitzin Quadrant, but it is an important one. Mr. Yeager knows and understands the importance of a Catholic K-12 education, and I thank him for his dedication!”
