Alumni Spotlight - Jared Delauter

After his time at BC, Jared Delauter enrolled at Robert Morris University in the fall of 2018, with a major in finance.  He had a local internship after his first year back home at First Summit Bank and continued to work there on breaks for the next few years, learning a great deal about the banking industry.  Due to Covid, Jared changed his major from Finance to Financial Planning, which stemmed from his love for helping people and a desire to educate others in an ever-changing financial world.  He found a job with Lifetime Financial Growth in downtown Pittsburgh, where he started as an intern and has been a full-time employee since graduating from Robert Morris in December.

Jared stated that he owes most of his success to his years on Husky Hill.  “Many students struggle during their first semester at school, but I was well-prepared.  The classwork at BC played an important role in my success academically at Robert Morris.  Every class, from Ms. Kirk’s Biology Class to Mr. Nagy’s Politics Class, prepared me for what was next.  I learned the importance of a strong worth ethic, I grew as a person every day, whether in the classroom or on the summer maintenance crew, and most importantly, the school allowed me to grow in my faith and nurtured my journey.”  Jared pointed out that the regular Masses and confessions, as well as daily religion class, allowed him to become the best version of himself.  He said, “I thank God endlessly for where I am today.  Using these principles has not only allowed me to find purpose in my professional career, but also in my day-to-day life.  If it were not for my family’s choice of Bishop Carroll, I know I would not be where I am today.

Jared said the transition to college was easy because of his education at Bishop Carroll.  “It was hard leaving Ebensburg and the people I knew my entire life, but I was ready.  I took what I learned from BC and applied it to my “new” life at Robert Morris.”  From the start, he was an active member of the Robert Morris student body, joining Catholic Campus Ministry, the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, and the Financial Management Association, along with working part-time in the registrar’s office.

He said that his time at Bishop Carroll went by quickly because he never stopped moving and was involved with so much on Husky Hill.  His list of activities included basketball, soccer, Student Council, Student Ambassadors, track, and football.  Jared explained, “Being heavily involved with sports and activities was great for me.  It made me realize I had to work hard for what I wanted.  Soccer was one of the biggest stepping stones in my time at Bishop Carroll.  I learned how to really be a team player, and that my success depended on the success of everyone around me.  I love helping people, and my career allows me to do just that as well.”

Jared is proud of his work as a Student Ambassador at Bishop Carroll and how it prepared him for college.  He said that working with the grade school children was fulfilling.  Jared commented, “It is not easy to talk in front of people and it took everything in me to do it sometimes.  My experience helped me immensely in overcoming my fear.  Without the courage to step out of my comfort zone, I would not have succeeded in something I very much enjoyed.  Facing every situation head-on with courage helped me succeed as a student and now as an employee.  I am proud to say Bishop Carroll had a large part in that.”

Jared said that the biggest and best piece of advice he received before attending BCCHS was to get involved.  He said that now as a graduate, he cannot stress enough how important that is to do.  His advice to the current and future Huskies is, “Even if you are just a little interested in a subject, try it out.  There are so many opportunities for you to get involved.  Take the chance and have some fun.  There really is no other community like Bishop Carroll and the support you receive there is unrivaled.”

Being a third-generation Husky, Bishop Carroll has always been a part of Jared’s life.  “I can never remember a time when I did not want to be a Husky,” Jared explained.  “Prior to enrolling, my parents and I had a discussion about the commitment, dedication, and sacrifice it would take to make an education at Bishop Carroll happen.  We made the decision as a family and I’m so grateful to them and to the Bishop Carroll community for the excellent education that I received.  I graduated knowing I was prepared for whatever the future held.  Bishop Carroll was and is my extended family.  I am so appreciative of the opportunity I was given, and I urge anyone considering it to talk to former and current students, as well as their parents, the faculty, and the administration.  I always felt I was part of something so much larger than myself.  My Catholic education at Bishop Carroll was special, I enjoyed my time there from start to finish, and I left those halls knowing I had all the tools necessary to succeed.”

Jared’s Bishop Carroll family is extremely proud of his work and looks forward to seeing how he will continue to change the world in a positive way!
