One Year Later Looking Back

Many Bishop Carroll alumni look back fondly on their time on Husky Hill, seeing the benefits years after they were enrolled as students.  Some of the Class of 2021 recently spoke with Mr. Nagy about how their time at BC has immediately benefited them in their current endeavors.

Molly Krumenacker, the 2021 Salutatorian, is currently attending Grove City College, majoring in Biology/Health.  She is also the manger for the men’s basketball team.  Molly believes that the sciences classes that she was able to take at Bishop Carroll have been a great benefit to her.  She said, “BC allowed me to take 7 sciences classes in my 4 years of high school and I felt really prepared.  Some of my college classes were largely reviews of what I learned at BC.”

Nick Weber is currently attending Triangle Tech at the Dubois Campus majoring in their maintenance electrical program.  While enrolled at BC, Nick also spent half of his day at Admiral Peary Vo-Tech.  He said that his physics class with Mr. Graffte and his math classes were the most beneficial courses he took at BC.  As a graduate of Admiral Peary, Nick had the option with his diploma to go straight into the workforce, but he said Bishop Carroll helped him decide to further his schooling and therefore advance further in his chosen field.

Ellie Long is attending Wester Chester University, majoring in Biology with Pre-Med ambitions.  Ellie was able to take 41 college credits with her from BC to West Chester, allowing her the opportunity to not only save thousands of dollars, but also advance early in her program.  She believes that the opportunity to earn college credits at BC is what benefitted her the most, especially her AP Biology and Advanced Chemistry courses.

Jordan Bobroski is a secondary education/history major at Saint Francis University, where he is also involved in Greek live and an Orientation Counselor.  He is also employed as a part-time supervisor at Starbucks in Ebensburg.  Jordan believes that his history classes with Mr. Nagy were the most beneficial because they influenced him to take the same path.  He said that BC helped him decide to attend a private college.  He added, “The teachers at BC influenced me to major in education because of the impact that they had on me as a student during my time at BC.”

While these graduates could not pin down an exact number of credits they transferred from BC to college, they all said that these credits greatly assisted them in their programs, allowing them to double major or finish early.  Jordan was able to use the Articulation Agreement between BC and SFU, and Nick was part of the agreement between Admiral Peary and Triangle Tech.

Beyond the classroom, all four were proud of the time they had here and cannot say enough about their experiences.  Jordan commented, “I learned at BC how to not fear my faith and always encourage myself and others to do their very best.  I will always remember how welcoming BC was when I was a freshman and how welcoming they still are when I visit.”  Molly credits BC for helping her with time management, saying, “Even though I’m not the best at it, I noticed that a lot of my friends in college with lighter academic loads and not as busy schedules were constantly complaining about being “too busy.”  Because I was involved in so many activities and sports and I had demanding classes, I felt like I had nothing but free time this past year.”  Nick is appreciative of the life lessons he learned, adding, “Bishop Carroll has shown me a great deal of respect and how to treat people with respect.  It has also given me a hard-working attitude.  My faith, family, and friends are still with me after high school.  I know I will always have people around me that I can rely on.”  Ellie shared many of the same sentiments as Nick, saying, “The friends I have made at Bishop Carroll and the memories I made have stayed with me a year out and will stay with me forever.  These connections and memories will impact my future because these people and experiences shaped me into the person I am today.”

Each 2021 graduate interviewed would like to pass on some advice to our 2022 graduates, current students, and future students.  Nick said, “Keep your options open and choose the path that makes you enjoy what you are doing.”  Ellie would like to remind current and future students to, “Take it one day at a time and remember everything you were taught!”  Molly’s advice is, “Be intentional about creating/cultivating a relationship with Jesus.  No matter what you accomplish, it means nothing if Christ isn’t the center of your life.  Strive to follow Paul’s advice that he gave to Timothy: ‘Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young.  Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity.’ (1 Timothy 4:12).  Also, get as involved as you can!  I’m kicking myself for starting softball late in my high school career and not giving track a try.  You most likely are not going to look back on school and think, ‘I wish I hadn’t done this sport/activity,’ but you probably will regret not doing something!”  Jordan echoes Molly in saying, “Do not be afraid to get involved.  There are so many clubs/activities to do and new people to meet.  BC made me into the person I am today, and I will always be grateful.  BC is an amazing family.”

We are proud of what these graduates and their classmates have been able to accomplish a mere single year out of high school.  Congratulations, best luck in the future, and remember that once a Husky, always a Husky!
