Junior High Athletics
Bishop Carroll Catholic High School is proud to sponsor junior high athletic teams for our students in grades 7-9. These teams welcome our students from All Saints Catholic School, Holy Name School, Saint Nicholas Catholic School, Saint Benedict School, Saint Bernard Regional Catholic School, and Saint Michael School. Currently, we offer football, basketball, cross country, track and field, baseball, and volleyball at the junior high level.
We understand that participating in sports may be a new experience for some of our junior high athletes and their parents. Bishop Carroll communicates athletic announcements through the grade schools, on our social networking pages (Bishop Carroll Athletics on BCCHS Facebook and BCCHS Twitter, and all games and practices are noted on Bishop Carroll’s Schedule Star page.
For those who are beginning athletics, some aren’t sure of what the terms ‘open gym’ and practice may mean. Open gyms are non-mandatory gymnasium time in the sport. Open gyms are permitted during the off-season of a given sport, and allow student-athletes to experience the sport before or after a specified season. Open gyms are a great opportunity for a student to decide if he or she wishes to take part in that particular sport.
Practices are the preparations for games or contests that take place within the sports season. These are important for student-athletes to learn and understand the teaching of the sport, plays and philosophies implemented by the coaching staff, and team strategies. Practices are very important and should be considered as such. An athlete who isn’t able to attend practices shall not expect to play in games or contests.
Games and contests for each of our sports are scheduled and available through Bishop Carroll's BigTeams Page listed at the top of this page. Athletes on all teams receive a copy of their schedule of games from the head coach at the beginning of the season.
The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) sanctions all athletics at Bishop Carroll. The PIAA also specifies when the first official practice, scrimmage, and game may occur for every season. They also specify the number of contests and eligibility rules in athletics. Bishop Carroll follows all policies and expectations of the organization.
All junior high athletes must pay a $60 athletic fee per sport. This fee is to assist the team in payment of necessary expenses that are incurred through that sport’s season. Junior high athletes should also complete an eligibility form and emergency procedure card. Both of these forms, and the athletic fee form, can be found on our student forms page.
They also must have a PIAA physical form on file at Bishop Carroll. The form must be the PIAA CIPPE form, which is also available on this page and at the Bishop Carroll office.
Bishop Carroll promotes and expects the highest ideals of sportsmanship from all of our athletes and families. Actions meant to demean any opposing player, official, or anyone associated with any athletic event are not in the highest ideals of interscholastic sports and will not be tolerated.
We encourage all parents to communicate with their student’s coach with any questions or concerns.
Coaches
All coaches at Bishop Carroll must be approved by the Athletic Director and the administration. After approval, all coaches are required to complete all clearances, the Youth Protection Course through the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown, and the concussion and cardiac arrest courses. The concussion and cardiac arrest courses must be completed every year at the following link:
